Dinner With Friends
Dinner With Friends is a signature program for Mission First United Methodist Church. It provides a substantial, hot meal every Friday night at 5:30 PM to anyone and everyone who wants to attend. Cost is optional, with a donation can next to the silverware tray. We average almost 100 people every week, and no one goes away hungry.
Started by Dwayne Melton in the 1980s, this program was run for many years by Jim Timmons, until his age (90+) forced him to give the reins over to our current chef, Ange Duvall.
Ange is a wonderful cook, with a unique sense of humour. She starts the meal off with the ringing of the copper cow bell, followed by a prayer. The diners then line up for a 3 course meal that usually consists of a main dish, a vegetable, salad, dessert and beverage. It is not unusual to see Ange dressed as a hotdog, if the meal is hotdogs or sausage, or to see green potatoes for St. Patrick's Day. She tries to make the meals fun as well as nurishing and from the responses of her diners, she is doing a great job.
Ange can always use good help in the kitchen and on the serving line. You can stop by and see her most Fridays during the day, just be careful of flying spoons!
