For more years than we can remember, Mission FGMC has been partnered with the Food Bank of the RGV to distribute food to the needy of Mission. Over the years, the area we are authorized to serve has changed, but we still provide vital food and clothing to about 100 families twice a month.

Our distribution dates are: August through June

  • 1st Thursday of the month 8:30 am until food is gone
  • 3rd Thursday of the month 8:30 am until food is gone

We provide both Spanish and English speaking volunteers to assist in signing up families for the service. There are three very important qualifications:

  1. You have to live within our area (see the map below)
  2. You must bring a picture ID with you when you sign up and when you come each time.
  3. You must bring proof of residency, normally in the form of a utility bill showing both your name and the address.

Our buyers (yes, we do have to pay for it) try their best to get a good variety of non-perishable items for each distribution. All families get these items. Most of the time, we have things that we are given by parks, or other groups, that are very limited in quantity. Those we put on a seperate table for families of 5 or more to select 'extra' items from. When we can get it, we have meat available, and sometimes other perishable items, such as produce or dairy. These items are not regularly available, but when they are, you will find them in our distribution line.

We also have Pablo's Closet open now during Food Distribution Days with gently used clothing that has been donated. Clients can find anything from under garments to winter coats, all at no charge.

Our program is also associated with the RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) of the RGV, and is part of the Sharyland ISD community service program. Our Friday night Dinner With Friends is actually an extension of this program as well, as one of its goals is to provide a good meal to anyone who needs it.
